Just Hanging Around

The Beach Homes we are building today are sometimes smaller than we would like. With prices rising on building our homes, using creative ways to get the most Bang for your Buck is more important than ever. I love this room because it shows how you can get a King sized bed in a smaller room and have additional storage. You could have something like this built with doors on the top two levels to store anything. One thing I love when space is limited or when you do not have room for a large enough table beside your bed is to use the hanging lamps in the picture. I also have used them over a regular headboard for those night time readers. The use of medium-light blue grey as a color is very soothing and by painting the back of the shelves the same color it highlights anything you use for decoration. The white coral is always good at the beach! The throw pillows being the same color as the piping around the “hotel linens” on the bed, bring it all together. What a great problem solver when you really want that larger bed but think the room is too small! See, you CAN do it!

“HOW TO” …

This is a simple thing that you can get your kids to help you with. There are two things here that will make your outside meal special, but not expensive. One is the napkin ring and the other is the napkin. Whoever said that napkins have to be paper or expensive? Depending on what your color scheme is, buy some light cotton fabric in those colors at Hobby Lobby in solid or pattern. A neat plaid or polka dot with your colors will bring a happy feeling to your table. When you find the fabric that you want make sure you have a pair of pinking shears. This is the type of scissor that has a jagged edge on it. If you do not have them, any fabric store and some craft stores will have them. When you cut out your 20” squares using these scissors, there is no hemming necessary. For the napkin rings you can use cut pieces of paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls. You can find colored sand at Hobby Lobby or Michaels or even use beach sand if it is fine enough. Coat the outside of the ring with good ‘ol Elmer’s glue and roll it in the sand. Set aside on a paper towel open side down and you will have a fun and unique table setting! AND YOU DID IT YOURSELF!

Hope to hear from all of you soon and please let me know if there is something specific that you are interested in. Enjoy your summer and your home!
