David Buchanan All Smiles After Tuesday Par 3 Shootout
The Par 3 Shootouts at the Ranch every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are a Skins Game. Everyone puts $10 into the pot. Low score wins $10. The rest of the cash is divided between the players who managed to win a hole outright with the lowest score. David Buchanan and John Milby each won $5 Tuesday with six over par 33’s. Buchanan, fresh off a putting lesson from Brent Smith, made the only skin and $100 by draining a tough downhill 20 foot birdie putt on the fourth hole.

Class “A” PGA Pro Brent Smith, playing out of the Massena Country Club, Massena N.Y., had nine consecutive pars for a nice 27 on the treacherous partial poa annua greens at the Ranch Tuesday. Because Brent’s handicap is at least ten shots better than everyone else at the Ranch, he graciously doesn’t compete for low score in the Par 3 shoot-outs. Class “C+“ Non-PGA pro Mike Mitchell was 10 shots back at 37. Mike Comeaux, who won the Sunday two man scramble with fast improving James Irvine, had a 34 and Mike VanZandt shot 35. The Dabtician, Robin Giddens and Shannon O’Brien fired 36’s. Ever game George Flores had a brutal 41 that included 5 double bogeys and four bogies. (2014-01-14)

O’Brien Wallops Stumbling Field
Class C+ Non-PGA Pro Mike Mitchell changed the turquois tee boxes for Thursday afternoons Par 3 Shootout at The Ranch. The lengthened track proved too much for most of the golfers, but not Shannon O’ Brien, whose 4 over par round of 31 lapped the next lowest scorers by 4 shots. John Milby, Michael Comeaux and Robin Giddens all shot 35 in the windy conditions with Comeaux birdieing the third hole and Giddens the first to share in the skins pot with O’Brien, who picked up two skins with birdies on six and eight. Milby was shut out. Tuesday’s winner David Buchanan, Wes Weisinger, and Mike VanZandt were eleven over par. Only Paul Williams (39) and “Quarenta” Michael Mitchell (40) were worse than Buchanan, Weisinger and VanZandt. (2014-01-16)
