Hope you all had a Merry Leap Day

Did anyone propose marriage, a dinner out, a ride on the beach, or just a good time? I don’t know about any of ya’ll, but the weather this past weekend was delightful, just like spring. I finished making my granddaughter’s first communion dress, and having a little cabin fever, I ventured outside to my vegetable garden and hoed around a bit – This garden is too hard. Next, I went out to one of the front gardens – This garden is too soft. Next, I went to the other side of the stairs in the front and – This garden was just right.

Nevermind, all the gardens were a mess and my back and the backs of my legs clear up to my “you know what” are killing me. It’s all good, everything will get back into shape, including my “you know what.” Thank goodness Maddie came over to chat and give me a break for about an hour.

Maddie is my sweet Orange Popsicle Friend. Kidding, Maddie is from Orange and she’s a Junior in high school. Shortly after Maddie left, and Maezy and I were out in the darned garden again, Maezy perked up and did her rendition of a pointer – thank goodness she’s too scared to move. A creature was gliding across the yards from the highway to the slough. Maddie called me at the same time we saw it, she saw it escape from a culvert. Oh my gosh, was it a nutria, a muskrat? We both googled it and we both agree it was an otter, and quite a mature one.

Maddie’s really concerned – “What should we do?” “Should we have Animal Control pick it up before it gets hurt?” I’ve heard there are otters around here – I suppose there’s no reason it shouldn’t survive.

I’ll never forget the otter we saw with her baby the last time we were in Monterey, California. Who knows, we may adopt her and name her. Geez, don’t get me started, I’ll be naming her before you know it!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
