Stressing About Christmas

By Georgia Osten
It always happens this time of year. And each year, I try to reason with my anxiety, everything is going to be fine. I took off work last Friday, thinking I needed to get my shopping done. I went to work to get a spreadsheet I prepared on that computer, and lo and behold, all “hell” had broken out. So, I spent 3 hours there. I caught the11:00 ferry and ended up at the Mall, only to find out there wasn’t really anything I needed there.

Off to Kroger, there’s always stuff I need from there. I made a couple of other stops, then over to Friendswood to pick up The Littles for the weekend. Their parents were in Breckenridge on a sweet skiing trip.

We landed back at the beach just in time for dinner. PawPaw threw some chicken nuggets into the oven and microwaved a couple of Mac & Cheeses.
Uncles Joe & Tim were here, all hyped up for their hunting trip on Saturday morning, a house full of testosterone. But those sweet guys brought two bottles of red wine and a peach pie! They’re welcome anytime!

All the boys slept in – 6:30am. Yep, that’s a heck of a lot better than the last time they were here. Bacon and pancakes for breakfast – a la Nana!

My buddy, Cathie, came over around 12:30 to go with us to visit Santa at The Big Store. What a Godsend! We went over in her golf cart, what a help she was. The boys were ecstatic to see Santa. I think one of them asked for Legos and the twins asked for ice cream? I worried a bit about Santa’s beard, Fisher was intent on touching it, I think Santa was a bit worried as well.

Sunday, I loaded The Littles back into the Mommy Car and we headed back home. Mama and Dada were expected back home by about 12:30. We hit McDonalds for three happy meals before we headed home. I couldn’t make the code and lock work on the door, so we had a little picnic on the front steps. McDonalds didn’t get the order correct, of course, fries instead of apple slices, so, of course the boys pigged out on the fries first, ignoring their nuggets and/or cheese burger (w/pickles).

It’s all good, here drives up Mama and Dada and all is well, opened the door for us and we all piled in, bringing all our Santa goodies in and whatever was left of lunch!

Another great weekend full of grandkids! That’s what life is all about these days, My Cup Runneth Over.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
