Weisinger Fires Bogey Free Round; O’Brien/Brannan Cash

By Mike VanZandt
Michael Comeaux lapped the field by four shots Thursday, December 5th, but his one over par 28 brought him no skins as at least one of the seven other players tied Comeaux’s score on every hole. The skins pot carried over to Tuesday, December 10th. In order to win a skin, you have to beat the field by at least one shot on any given hole. David Buchanan birdied the hardest Par 3 in Texas with a nice 18 foot putt, then watched Comeaux cover him up with a 12 foot birdie putt of his own.

Tuesdays Par 3 contest saw seven of the eight golfers return for the double skins pot in frigid 45 degree weather with a strong North wind. Shannon O’Brien carded a nice 30 to edge Mike VanZandt by one shot and also picked up a skin with a Par on the third hole. Sweet Charlie Brannan birdied the first hole to win the only other skin. O’Brien, expecting 1099’s from most of the regular players at the Ranch for the money they handed over in 2013, had six pars and three bogies Tuesday. The Dabtician (Dabney Harrison), parred the first hole on the turquoise course before reeling off seven consecutive bogeys and a final double bogey for a 36 to tie Sweet Charles.

Wes Weisinger’s bogey free round saw him make six consecutive double-bogey fives before finally parring the 7th and 8th holes. Weisinger also double bogied the 9th hole for a near course record 41. Weisinger, a consistent “A” player at the Ranch who shot 86 at Eagle Pointe last week, may be trying to raise his handicap for the upcoming spring season. Weisinger’s son Jentry is surely licking his chops for a shot at the old man over his Christmas break from Texas A&M. My money’s on Wes since I’ve seen Jentry putt. (2013-12-12)
