As comfortable as an old pair of shoes

By Georgia Osten
That’s the way it should be when old friends get together. I’ve actually been retired for 2 years now, but manage to keep in touch with some of my co-workers from the “corporate days.” We’ve had some really good times when they venture down to Crystal Beach. The Girls’ Weekends are especially a hoot – What Happens At The Beach Stays At The Beach!

This weekend’s reunion was almost a disaster, because I didn’t remember a couple of my friends were coming. I got a text on my cell phone saying, “are we still on for this weekend?” To add insult to injury, I had lost all my contact numbers when my phone crashed recently and I had no idea who was texting me. “Who is this?” Long story, short, nobody was offended.

Company – I’m not likely to make a big fuss over people coming to visit, I love for everyone to feel right at home (within limits), to feel like family. It’s especially easy when friends have been here before. They remember where the glasses are, they remember where extra bath towels and beach towels are kept, they even remember to wash their sandy feet before coming back into the house. Beach fun, dinner, drinks, games, late night conversation and deck sitting, all the ingredients for a fantastic weekend.

There is truth to the fact that “You never know how many friends you have until you get a beach house!”

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
