Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Whatever!

by Georgia Osten
Thanksgiving is officially over, so is Black Friday! I’m scrambling with Cyber Monday, trying to get all the best deals I can before it’s over. Geez, I don’t remember getting so excited about shopping. Don’t get me wrong, I have always loved shopping, I think living on the beach has only intensified the urge. I can’t wait until Wednesdays (my day off) to hit the City! I actually went shopping on Black Friday; I was at Macy’s by 8:15 a.m., only to be greeted by sleepy, yawning cashiers who had been hard at it since 1:00 a.m. I remember working at Foley’s during Christmas…want to talk about “sweat shops”?!? I do appreciate those who work retail and I think everyone should have to work retail at one time or another in their life. Restaurants too, although I have not, but my children have. Grocery stores too – the kids all worked at Kroger, I worked at a Weingartens, my uncle hired me. Never did learn the codes for produce and pretty much made up my own prices as the shoppers would come through my line, this being before scan codes. There’s not a lot of folks who actually check prices as you ring them up (back then), thank goodness!

Time to check those Santa lists I’m getting from the grandkids. I’m not really sure what a lot of it is, like Transformers – cars that turn into a dinosaur. Just wondering, why would a car turn into a dinosaur? Thank goodness for Amazon, just search for it and Amazon knows what you’re talking about! Good luck all you shoppers. I’ll see you out in the crowds and the traffic!
