The Bolivar Chamber of Commerce endorses a resolution in favor of an election to authorize the Galveston Independent School District to purchase attendance credits from the state with local tax revenues. Election day, for this single item on the ballot, is Tuesday August 27, 2013, at the Joe Faggard Community Center.
A RESOLUTION IN FAVOR OF AN ELECTION TO AUTHORIZE THE
GALVESTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PURCHASE
ATTENDANCE CREDITS
- Whereas, the Galveston School District has scheduled an election for August 27, 2013, and
- Whereas, this election would authorize the District to purchase attendance credits from the State of Texas, and
- Whereas, not passing this issue could cause the State of Texas to annex property from the Galveston ISD and send the taxing base to another school district, and
- Whereas, passing of this proposition would not raise property taxes in the District, and
- Whereas, voters on the Bolivar Peninsula in the Galveston Independent School District (GISD) have only two days to vote on the Peninsula, either on Monday August 12 or election day, Tuesday August 27, 2013 or they can vote in Galveston at the GISD Support Center on any day during the early voting period.
- Therefore, we, The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce endorse the issue and urge all the voters living in the GISD area to vote for the proposition.
