No rules here, just a nice homey feeling. Each of us has a style we are comfortable with, bring it to your beach house. In the picture below there is vibrant Red, White and Blue. Note the mattress ticking on the chair and how they used the chair’s ottoman as a coffee table. Great use of space and the red lamp makes this a more country room than a Beachy room. The flag pillow shown here with some nautical flag pillows would bring this room more into the beach category. 
The important thing is to use what you have and what you like! When it comes to furniture, white is always right! You can paint anything you already have and it will fit in. Just think how another piece of furniture painted Navy blue would bump this room up to Nautical even more! If you are into the Nautical style of décor, there are many shops in Galveston and one that specializes in antiques salvaged from old ships! What a fun thing to collect! I can see a ships wheel, worn and well used hung on the wall or over a fireplace. Use your imagination.
Shadows in Seashells
Here is a great example of how to make your own wall art. Shadow boxes can be filled with anything. This is a good way to show your collection or any treasures you have found along the beach. Your local Hobby Lobby has them in all sizes and depths. Just choose the one you want and start filling. These look great on the wall and in a grouping! Don’t keep your treasures in a drawer, let everyone enjoy! Happy hunting!
