Double Up?

This week’s room is a wonderful use of space. Nancy and Gary Ames have several children and need to use their space in the most efficient way. These bunk beds are beautiful and make the best use of the room. Everything including the size of the window in the room was designed to use the space for the most sleeping area possible. When they were building their house, they had KWT’s cabinet maker create the perfect space for their large family. Notice how each bunk has a light and the ladders enhance the design. Notice the ladders at the end of the beds to save floor space and the extra drawers under the lower bunks. Each bunk has its own nautical themed light so when someone wants to read, it does not bother anyone else in the room. This creative idea creates individual space for each guest. With the small footprint of this room, they were able to sleep four more guest in a room the size of some larger homes master closets.

Their home is always full of fun, laughter and friends. Using this design they had room for more. Great job Nancy and Gary, on using your space to its best advantage! I look forward to sharing some of your other great ideas!

“HOW TO”

Last week, I showed you how to make a statement with your existing candlesticks or flea market finds by using shells. Another way you can use the same candlesticks as accents is to create a round flower arrangement to top them using either fresh or silk flowers. I have also used this technique by making an arrangement in a square shape and tying a ribbon around it like a package. It is very striking when using 3 on different height cake plates for a buffet centerpiece. To use fresh flowers use floral foam and soak it in water until completely moist. Then cut the flower stems short and fill up the shape very closely. Depending on the on the type of flower used (I prefer carnations for the density and aroma) this arrangement will last as long as a week. When using silk flowers, use the regular open pore foam you can find at a craft store and follow the same procedure.

Have fun and remember…any day at the beach is a good day!

Live for the warmth of the sun on your face, the sand in between your toes and the taste of saltwater on your lips.
