Galveston’s Pleasure Pier

by Kelly Moad
After one long week in the sand and surf, we decided to part with Crystal Beach for one day and head into the “big city” – Galveston. Of course, we took advantage of the best free entertainment in Texas, the Bolivar Ferry. We were prepared with crackers for the seagulls which disappeared in record time. We crossed over and ventured down to the Seawall. Our little family of four wanted to check out the new Pleasure Pier.

It was a very hot day – surprise! – but we thoroughly enjoyed it! We purchased several ride tickets, both family and kiddie rides, and spent a few hours walking up and down the beautiful pier. We loved riding around the ferris wheel overlooking miles of coastline, driving little cars and firetrucks, spinning in teacups, gliding up and down on the two-story carousel, and cooling off a little from the splashing boat ride. We capped it all off with an excellent lunch at Bubba Gump, overlooking the water, and refreshing our memories of Forrest Gump trivia. All in all, it was an excellent experience and I highly recommend the adventure.
