Hear the Waves!

When designing their beach home, some people want it to look like it has been there for generations. One way is to use a lot of bead board painted white and either reconditioned older appliances or new reproductions. The appliances are very colorful and can match just about any décor you have in the rest of your house. Kitchens are sometimes neglected because most people don’t use their imagination in the design. It is very easy to just go along with the crowd. Most of us do not want to come to the beach and have the chore of cooking and the clean-up after, so the kitchen becomes an afterthought. Today, these beach homes are not just weekend retreats but actual homes to be used now or for when the owners retire to the beach. Hiding the dishwasher behind a cabinet panel and the microwave behind a door, you can still have that feeling of being in your Grandmother’s vintage home. When looking at this kitchen the use of “old time” cabinet pulls and even glass knobs will add to the feeling of yesteryear. I can smell the cookies baking now!

HOW TO”…Christmas at the beach

Noel, Noel….Here are some easy to make letters to spell out whatever you wish as part of your Christmas at the Beach decorations. Any craft store will have different sizes of wooden letters already cut out and waiting for your design. Making these letters is easy and so individual by using any type of seashells you choose. You can attach the shells with either using hot glue or if you are not in a big hurry, just lay the wooden letter on a flat surface and use E6000 to attach your shells. Adding the starfish and the colorful shells will make them stand out! When it is not Christmas, any of the letters can still make an impact on your mantel by making one with your families initial. Have fun and use this project for an everlasting family Christmas at the Beach!
