It was a fun-packed Sunday

We caught the 7 am ferry over to Galveston for the Galveston Marathon & Half Marathon on Valentine’s Day. Something we wouldn’t normally do except for the fact our 35 year old son, Matthew, was running his second half marathon in less than a year. He would be embarrassed, but this is after three ACL’s, both knees, twice on one…

We met up with our daughter-in-law, Camber, and our almost 2 year old grandson, Pierce. We decided to begin at the 7 mile marker at the beginning of Ferry Road and Seawall. Camber was prepared with Pierce’s wagon, a blanket to sit on, his choo choo’s and diggers. Grandma had donuts (of course). We couldn’t wait to spot “Daddy!” Along came the guy wearing a Hawk Hat and Mommy knew Daddy was close behind.

Mommy was prepared. She painted a sign, suggested by her brother-in-law – “Touch here for more Power.” Somehow, Grandma got possession of the sign when Pierce wasn’t interested in holding it. All of a sudden Daddy came into view, and bless his heart, Little Pierce couldn’t help himself, running to meet his Dad, arms out, and the two hugged like they hadn’t seen each other in weeks. All this at Mile 7. It was a tearful moment, sorry I couldn’t help myself. Daddy handed PT over to his Mom and the race went on.

We followed him on to Mile 11, Grandma sticking out the “Power Sign” to anyone interested – trust me, some were NOT interested, but that’s okay, I didn’t make them lose more than a second or two by dodging the sign.

Feeling like we had run the race ourselves, we advanced over to the finish line (by automobile) at 23rd and Mechanic to see the runners fly over the finish line, announced by name – “DADDY FROM PEARLAND”

I love it! Camber declares Grandma will join the racing circuit just to hold the “Touch here for more Power” sign. Next race is the Conoco-Phillips Rodeo Run in Houston – see you there, if you dare!

Watch out for the old lady with gray hair chasing you down with a sign – TOUCH HERE

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
