Large grass fire in Crystal Beach

Firefighters battled a large grass fire between Jacks Road and O’Neal Road in Crystal Beach the afternoon of Monday, July 1. Heavy smoke filled the sky as the fire threatened several homes in the area. Units from Crystal Beach, Port Bolivar, and High Island fought the fire. As the flames spread, local resident Michael Warfield jumped on his bobcat machine and helped carve a fire break in front of the fire. He worked dangerously close to the fire and at times seemed to be in the middle of it. The fire was put out with no loss of structures. Great job!

Great job to everyone that was working so hard to extinguish the fire. I was a volunteer firefighter for my town and I know how hard we had to work too put a fire out. I love Crystal Beach like my second home, so that made me proud to love CB and the whole peninsular.
