Larry Skiles’ Birdseye View

By Linda Elissalde
Over 70 people crowded into the Eagles fine smoke free meeting room on August 16 to hear retired Air Force and Braniff Airlines Captain Larry Skiles presentation of his firsthand experience flight over Bolivar Peninsula immediately following Hurricane IKE in 2008. Folk were not disappointed. Fellow pilot Pat Rogers who accompanied Skiles could not attend. However, Captain Skiles information, accompanied by photos taken from his airplane, was riveting. Attendees gasped and pointed out landmarks along with remembrances. Captain Skiles received a well-deserved standing ovation upon conclusion. He patiently visited with all who wished to ask questions or share experiences with him after the show.

Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation (BPCF) sponsored this exciting event and also provided delicious hors d’oeuves. Everyone left feeling entirely satisfied as they viewed what is was like after IKE and how far we have come from those devastating days.

Thanks to BPCF, Eagles and Captain Larry Skiles for such a fascinating, informative evening. Well done
