Peace, Love, Beads

The 2024 Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras Parade was an absolute blast! On Saturday, the parade kicked off at 11:30am at Camp Margaritaville RV Resort and cruised down Hwy 87, spreading joy and excitement to the many parade goers. The floats, vehicles, and golf carts were all decked out in vibrant colors and decorations that perfectly captured this year’s theme of “Peace, Love, Beads.” From the moment the parade started, the crowds were awed and entertained by the festive atmosphere and the generous bead tossing. If you missed out on the fun this year, don’t worry – mark your calendars for next year’s Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras Parade, because you won’t want to miss it!

I really enjoyed the parade and the awesome floats and caught plenty of bids! However, I was somewhat disappointed with what happened to the fire trucks? Kids really enjoy seeing and hearing the fire trucks come through. Placing them at the end of the parade was disrespectful, in my opinion, considering the service they provide to the community. There is a reason why they are always placed at the front, middle, and rear of the parade. This was for safety purposes in case of fire or other emergency incident. The fire departments have always participated and supported the parade and the general feeling this year was possibly not participating at all. Also, while we are on the subject, what happed to the Shriners? They are always a favorite of kids and adults alike. As a seasoned parade goer for my many years I would like to see more of the traditional parade entrants such as flag corp, band, drill team, and horses. Just a thought.
