Robert Van Zandt Sr. Memorial Cookoff

The 4th Annual Robert Van Zandt, Sr. Memorial Cookoff was a sizzling success last Saturday in Port Bolivar, featuring culinary competition with over 35 entries spanning categories including two types of Gumbo, Chili, Seafood Appetizer, and Dessert. Participants were eager to compete for bragging rights and support the Port Bolivar Cemetery fundraiser. Visitors weren’t just spectators; they could savor a bowl of gumbo or chili, contributing to the fundraiser. As the cookers anxiously awaited results, a lively live auction added to the excitement. The top three winners in each category were awarded custom engraved cutting boards, but the real winner was the Port Bolivar Cemetery, which benefited from the generosity of all involved. Thank you to the Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department for the use of their facility, and gratitude is extended to the cook teams, volunteers, and visitors who made this event possible, as well as to host Robbie Van Zandt. We look forward to next year’s cookoff and another successful fundraiser for a great cause.
