Spring is near?

By Georgia Osten
I think the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil (say that 5 times), DIDN’T see his shadow, which means an early Spring. This little critter was watched in Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania, by thousands in freezing weather. Come on people, is this crazy or what? Besides, who ever heard of Gobbler’s Knob? “Punx,” as I like to call him, has a handler, really, someone trained to take care of Punx. Punx looks like a very small nutria.

Hey, we could have this ceremony in a place like Crystal Beach, Texas. We could do this with a nutria, what could we name him/her? Tilly Thibodeaux? Eugene Fontenot? We could all meet at Tiki, say at lunch on a Saturday, have a good ol’ gathering, a few beers, some margaritas … Georgia is hopping around like a crazy person trying to serve us all and Chris is popping bottle tops as fast as he can, Karen is probably not there, off running her flower shop or going to a baby shower or something.

Anyway, let’s see, what are we looking for? We all know it’s 80 degrees outside the first of February and we need some sort of proof that Spring is near?? All I have to say about this early Spring thing is, “look around you, the weather is beautiful, the flowers are blooming, we didn’t have a freeze …” Face it, Spring is on its way, we don’t need a critter to pop out of the slough, surf or intracoastal … life is grand in Crystal Beach! Aren’t you happy you live here?
