Stage Fright

by Georgia Osten
Being an “only child”, it hasn’t always been easy for me to get up in front of a group of people to talk. Charades was always out of the question – why on earth would I want to act out some subject, flailing my arms, kicking about to get someone to “get it!”

I remember a presentation Human Resources had to give at work and of course, I was part of the presentation. I had all these folks sitting around staring at me while I tried to intelligently explain the Merit System, a yearly bonus paid to each employee by the company. I had an overhead projector in front of me where I was expected to place the slides. My goodness, my hands and the slides were shaking so badly, a co-worker sitting next to me had to help me place them on the glass. Oh boy, was I relieved to finally finish!

Now, as I prepare for my bi-monthly meetings with the Lions Club, I’m so relaxed…maybe too relaxed. Maybe it’s the crowd, I love them all and the feeling they truly care is worth it’s weight in gold. Recently, on our way to the meeting, my husband and I had to turn around, go back home to get my folder with the agenda, all my notes, and the Lions Banner. Talking to the Club is like talking to a bunch of friends: they interrupt, they get belligerent, demanding, endearing, charming and very emotional. Our discussions are so full of good intentions!

To all my friends and to all who read my little Sand Bucket, I Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Joyous Holiday Season!

I would have never believed you have stage fright! You cover it well! Everytime I see you, you say hi, Nanette (remembering names like that is amazing to me) and always have a smile on your face.
