Stone Face Ranch serves up the winning Chili

On Saturday, the place to be was the 2nd Annual Driftwood Chili Cook Off! Jackie and Brian Sticker were the hosts for this charity event. Sixteen teams showed up to “show off” their favorite chili recipe. Teams represented were Reel Magic, Kokomo’s Flip Flop Bar, Nacho Mama’s, Camp Fire Cookers, X-Rated, Fire in the Hole and everyone’s favorite Screamin’ Mimi, who took first place at last year’s Chili Cook Off and first place at the Gumbo Cook Off last April.

The cooks assembled early to get started on their concoctions while The Port Arthur Playboys entertained all with their lively Cajun music. The tasters were eager to begin making their rounds to test the chili.

At 3pm, the judges sequestered upstairs to make their decisions. In the meantime, the Kids’ Choice award was announced – Krewe de Mongoose! Next, the People’s Choice award went to Krewe de Mongoose … all signs were pointing to Krewe de Mongoose. The crowd went wild! Krewe de Mongoose is a group of neighbors who live in Pearl Subdivision, right next door to Driftwood. Pearl Beach has a BBQ Cook Off in April – Stay Tuned.

About that time, the judges were through and Jackie began announcing the winners of the Cook Off. Starting with Third Place – Cooks’ Cookers, Second Place – Beach Bunny and First Place went to Stone Face Ranch! Stone Face Ranch chose Community Outreach as their “Charity of Choice.”
