Easy Breesy Easy Breezy

(Jun-12-2012) Living at the beach, your deck becomes an extension of your living space. When you think about how you are going to decorate your deck, keep your homes style and color palette in mind. This porch is refreshing just to look at. It makes me think of lime sherbet! One thing that I really like in this picture is the windows on the side of the porch that can close and lock. When we have those crazy wind storms or the sideways rain we get here on Bolivar this would help to keep the space dry and then allow you to open them again when it stops. Several people are using the slats on their garages now and that would be a great use for them on the ends of your deck. The slats would let air flow but also provide some privacy for those that have some very “close” neighbors. Note how the furniture and the cushions are the same color. When painting the furniture the same color of the cushions, it brings a nice soft color to the porch without being too formal. You can find this rattan furniture new and also find it in a lot of Houston and Beaumont resell stores. Find your cushions first and then match the paint to them. Much easier than the other way around! Yes, I think I need just this type of porch and the margarita looks pretty good also!

“HOW TO” …

This is such an easy way to make your mark when you are hosting a party. All of us here on the peninsula are practically able to go out our front door and pick up shells on the beach. I have done this and it looks great especially with a fruit tray. All you need for this is some wooden skewers and either E6000 or a glue gun. Put your glue into the shell you are using and then stick the skewer into the shell with the pointed end out. These can actually be reused by breaking the stick off when you are finished and gluing a fresh skewer onto the shell. If you are using shells you gathered from the beach, make sure you soak them in bleach and rinse them really well. A variety of shells when you are making these shows off your table in the best way. Showcase then by using a tall glass or a small vase to put them in on your table. Yes, once again, you did it yourself!

Hope to hear from all of you soon and please let me know if there is something specific that you are interested in. Enjoy your summer!
