Ah, Spring Break!

GO_0315I remember it well – back in the day. I remember going to Galveston with some friends, we really didn’t know what we were supposed to do, so we just strolled the beach, one end to the other. Being so naïve, we left and went home at a proper time and didn’t get into any trouble. As a semi-adult, for Spring Break, we camped at Padre, no facilities, just sand dunes. As I’m seeing lately what we could find in the dunes, I thank my lucky stars we survived.

Today, as we drive along the beach at the height of Spring Break, all we’re seeing is a lot of kids having a good time. They’re cruising the beach, or standing there in their bikinis freezing, or they’re out in the water freezing. We’re in our sweat shirts just to keep the chill off, comfortable as all get out!

I see many police, not sure what they’re looking for, but I’m happy to see them out there. Just by being present, should stave off any stupidity.

Looking forward to my group of teenagers later this week – all six of them! PawPaw and I are ready for a bonfire and fireworks, but if that’s not their “cup of tea,” we’re ready for whatever they want to do. After all, it’s their Spring Break, not ours anymore.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
