All God’s Creatures

(Apr-3-2012) What happens to all those pets who get lost? Vacationers come to visit with their pets, stay in a beach house, they let their pets out, pets are totally unfamiliar with their surroundings, they wander off and become lost. Poor little guy – a young beautiful beagle, practically a pup, so clean, so sweet, following any ol’ golf cart, just looking for his family. I saw him yesterday on my street in the Pearl Beach subdivision around 5 p.m. He wouldn’t come to me, very cautious. So I drove over to Driftwood to see if anyone was out and perhaps missing him. One resident told me they had seen him up at the Big Store and the nursery earlier, so, clearly, he was making it across Hwy. 87, how scary! I didn’t see him again until this morning on my way to Galveston, he was only a mile from the ferry landing. He had traveled over 11 miles last night and through the storm this morning. Long story, short, I stopped and happened to have a leash in the car and very carefully collared him, gathered him up in an old towel I carry in the car and across the ferry we went. We stopped at the Galveston shelter on our way to Texas City, where they vacinated him and wished him well. I will post on Craig’s list, as advised by Texas City, and I will put signs up in the Big Store and the Post Office. I named him Buddy … God bless little Buddy.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
