Since 1986, hundreds of thousands of Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have removed over 8,500 tons of trash from Texas beaches and estuaries. On Saturday, September 28, all up and down our beloved Peninsula, full and part-time residents gathered along their particular sub-division’s beaches to join in the Adopt-a-Beach Clean Up. Gloves on, trash bags or buckets in hand, we fanned out from the water’s edge to the dunes to gather trash. From strings, to plastic bags, old washed up shoes, balloons, lots of plastic water bottle caps, Styrofoam cups, cans and illegal glass bottles, even a syringe or two, you name it, we managed to pick it up.
Of course, anything we do on the beach around here calls for a party. Our group had a hot dog cook out afterwards, BYOB and BYOC! Emerald had a Beverage Cart on the beach, providing refreshments – Anybody for a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa?
