The long awaited Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club (BPLC) Charter Party became reality on Saturday, November 17, 2012. The Tiki Beach Bar & Grill hosted the event. Approximately 60-70 Lions came from as far away as Giddings, Santa Fe, Hallettesville, Bay City, Texas City, Blessing, Freeport, Rosenberg and our neighbors, Galveston, to mention a few. The BPLC began with 20 members in July and has grown to over 45 members. Lion Ron Martin, from Freeport, breezed through Bolivar one day back in July and by 4pm had recruited enough people to form a Club.
A Lions Club Bell was presented by Jessie Ann Bradshaw, President of the Galveston Noon Lions Club. The bell is a Lions Club tradition at meetings and events and is used whenever an achievement is mentioned, or someone does or says something worthy of recognition.
The Lions Club is a non profit organization, a wonderful group of enthusiastic people, whose goal is to help the community in any way we can. You may have seen us at our first fund raiser, where we sold hamburgers, hot dogs and sausage on a stick at the Jane Long Festival.
At our Charter Party, with profit from the Jane Long event, we were able to present a check to William Comeaux for the Annual Christmas Bike Drive in the amount of $500. And as a sponsor award, we presented a check to our District neighbors in Blessing, Texas, who will be having their own Charter Party soon.
The Charter Party evening brought in over $3500 in sponsorships, raffles, dinner and a silent auction. We have a lot more to GIVE now, so be on the lookout for your very own Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club. We are here to serve the Bolivar community.

The Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club has become a reality and a great one at that. I hope to see many events and continued support from the community to make the Lions Club a great success. Lion Georgia is a great President&team builder. Lions Club is a great addition to our peninsula! Thanks Georgia and Officers for ramping this up and for making a large Christmas Bike 2012 donation for our children!
