Cardinal Daniel Nicholas DiNardo celebrates Mass in Bolivar!

On Sunday, Our Lady By the Sea Catholic Center was full of parishioners who were present to witness Daniel Cardinal DiNardo celebrate Mass. Cardinal DiNardo, age 63, leads the Galveston-Houston Diocese of the Catholic Church and is the first cardinal ever appointed from a diocese in the Southern United States. DiNardo was appointed Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.

Despite difficulties hearing, the Cardinal sings or chants much of the Mass. “His intelligence, wit, and ability to passionately and persuasively preach the Gospel are unmatched.” (Rocco Palmo) Cardinal DiNardo is a dynamic speaker, and mixes a little humor in with his theology. His homily lasted a record 14 minutes, and as Cardinal DiNardo put it, “that’s pretty short for a Cardinal, believe me, I could go on forever!”

Cardinal DiNardo was accompanied by Rev. E.J. Stein, Deacon Sam Dell’Olio, Deacon Henry Herrera, and four members of the Knights of Columbus, otherwise known as “my bodyguards,” remarked the Cardinal.

The message that Cardinal DiNardo delivered to the Bolivar congregation this past Sunday is very special and important. We should all pray that the message be embraced by all Catholics and Christians in the USA. Also pray for Cardinal DiNardo.
