Entergy Texas announces improvements on Bolivar

Last Friday, Entergy Texas hosted a Town Hall discussion to address the power outages Bolivar residents experienced during the freezing temperatures in December. The meeting room at Jose’s Cantina Restaurant was standing room only. Entergy Texas CEO Eli Viamontes opened the discussion with a sincere apology to everyone in the community and a commitment to upgrade the infrastructure to make sure this will not happen again.

The cause of the outage was equipment shut-down at two substations due to overload conditions during the freezing temperatures. Temporary measures were put in place to restore power, with the addition of two 5MVA transformers, increasing total capacity by approx. 30%.

To meet the growing electricity demand on Bolivar, Entergy will implement a combination of upgrades to current equipment and construction of new substations and distribution lines to improve reliability. Scheduled completion of substations (Q2-2024) and distribution lines (Q1-2025).

Following the presentation, a question and answer period followed.

30% upgrade to Entergy’s grid is a joke. That barely covers new homes and businesses built in 2023. Look around you. Homes are going up everywhere. We need a 100% upgrade or better.

Is Entergy going to reimburse all of us, who had to get hotel rooms and buy food in Galveston during the power failure they caused during Christmas? If not, I will be posting instructions for everyone so they can file a small claims lawsuit without legal assistance. Filing under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act which entitles you to triple damages for a “Knowing Violation” and punitive damages to ensure they don’t take advantage of us again. It may be necessary to file against the Texas PUC to get the point across.
