A Very Cultural Evening!

By Georgia Osten
They did it again! The Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation held their yearly fantastic Wine Tasting Event last Thursday evening. The President Extraordinaire, Vicky Norris, and her fellow teammates, Linda Spencer, Sandi Covington, Marsha Fredenburg, Sherry Morgan, Ange Scheibel & Elinor Tinsley, absolutely Rocked the Peninsula! The wines were from the Bruno Winery in Sour Lake owned by, none other than, Shawn Bruno, Vicky’s 1st cousin. Shawn is pictured between Ange and Elinor.

Vicky’s and Shawn’s Dads were brothers, two of nine children!. Their wines are blended from Salvatore Bruno’s original recipes established in the rolling hills of Salaparuta, Sicily, circa 1889. The winery is dedicated to Salvatore’s memory and the love of family and tradition he represents.

After we checked in at the ticket table, we were directed to go step over to the “pairing” bar and load up our plates. It was difficult to hold off until the wine began to flow.

We sampled and judged eight different wines Shawn selected from his winery, beginning with a strawberry wine and ending with a raisin wine. I came away with 3 bottles of Party of Nine and 3 bottles of Texas Rivers Red, both hearty reds!

After the official wine tasting, we were invited to help ourselves to more tasty treats at the open bar, and this lovely selection (pictured below).

Thank you ladies for such an exciting evening. The next Cultural Foundation event: March 14th, Tour of Galveston County Museum & April 15th, Arts & Craft Festival at Festival Park. You won’t want to miss it!
