Fishing Report & Tide Chart For Rollover Pass, TX Oct 8 to Oct 15, 2012

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Summary- Excellent action this past week with the Bull reds showing up in force keeping the redfish anglers happy- Golden croaker action gave up some the largest croaker so far with 12 to 15 inch bull croaker boxed by anglers- Flounder were mostly small throwback males but the larger females made a good showing with 14 to 24 inchers being caught on both sides of the cut. Specks from 15 to 22 inches were early and late action only.

Speckled Trout– Night-time anglers catching a few keepers under the lights with daytime action limited to early and late activity (Size/Limits: 15 to 25 inches for 10 specks with only one over 25 inches per day as part of the daily limit).

Redfish– FANTASTIC as both slot and bull reds made a strong showing for cut and surf anglers with one angler catching and releasing10 bulls before he was able to catch his slot limit of 3 reds. Still a few stupid anglers keeping illegal rat-reds and therefore keeping TPW wardens busy nabbing and fining them. WHEN will you learn it’s not worth it people!! (Size/Limits: 20 inches to 28 inches for 3 reds- with one over 28 inches when tagged as part of the 3 fish daily slot-limit).

Flounder– SHOULD be really good this coming week after this cold front chilled the flats. A  few large females were already caught from 20 to 24 inches. This is not the main run which should occur later this month (Size/Limits: 14 inches minimum for 5 flounder per day).

Black Drum- Lots of illegal puppy drum with a few slot being caught- Still- people aren’t following the TPW rules on 30inchers- GEEEZE!!! REMEMBER, ALL drum under 14 inches and over 30 inches MUST be released (Size/Limits: 5 per day at 15 – 30 inches).

Sand/Gulf Trout – Lots of Gulf trout moving through the cut  (No limits).

Whiting/Croaker – Nice whiting but some REALLY nice croaker coming in with anglers catching and boxing quite a few BULLS to 15 inches (No Limits).

Crabbing – CRABS are still CRABBING anglers baits so come and gettum PLEASE!  Blue Crab  Size/Limits- must be 5 inches across carapace (point-to-point). No creel limits,  BUT ALL SPONGE CRABS (egged females) MUST BE RELEASED.  Stone Crabs: Right claw only is kept if two are present- Stones with but one claw must be released- Right claw must be 2-1/2 inches from the knuckle before being kept.

Stingaree Marina and Bait Camp Report East Bay and salt marsh action good for reds, trout, and flounder. Reefs, sandbars, pads  and grassy cuts and points all producing good creels. The birds are up and hovering over schools of trout and reds providing some of the most exciting action of the year.
