Bay Vue Methodist Church (BVMC) Sunday Services always open with George Strong’s strong welcome of, “GOOD MORNING, CHURCH”. Where upon, congregants strongly shout back, “GOOD MORNING, GEORGE!” This is always an uplifting experience. George Strong turned 86 on June 8, 2023. Yes, he is still going strong. (Maybe that is enough play on one word.)
Residents are fortunate to have George call the Bolivar Peninsula home. His list of achievements, past and present, is too long to name. However, some include serving as a Major in the US Army, BVMC’s Lay Leader, Vice President of the Water Board, volunteering at food truck, treasurer of ESD #2 , Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, outstanding performances as Mirabeau B. Lamar in Jane Long shows and other productions by Way, Way Off Broadway Ensemble Players.
Raquel Silverberg, Bay Vue Methodist Church’s Pastor Valerie Hudson, pianist Paulette Layfield, Marcel and Linda C Elissalde wanted to treat George to a birthday dinner. He chose JayLa’s in Gilchrist. While I am not a Karaoke participant, the young man in charge of Karaoke was great. George and Paulette danced. Marcel and Linda jitterbugged. Then we were treated to a Karaoke duet of “Peaceful, Easy Feeling”by Valerie and Paulette. They provided an excellent finale to our outing.
Sunday, June 11, George was serenaded by BVMC choir and church attendees. Everyone joined in a lustful rendition of “Happy Birthday,” and of course ended with, “And many, many more”. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEORGE !
