History Repeats

Georgia's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
I remember it so well. Kids grow up and move on, and so on, and so on. This time, it’s a Grand. Actually, my oldest Grandson. He’s graduating from college in May and starting his new job in June. Graduation will be in Golden, Colorado. A bit selfishly, I’m looking forward to the journey to Colorado as sort of a vacation. We’ll need to hurry on to make the ceremony, then the party in Littleton, but after that, we’re off on a leisurely trip back to Texas, stopping wherever we want to.

To add to the excitement about Grant getting his first job in his new career, he’ll be moving to Bloomington, Indiana. His Mom & Dad will help in his search for an apartment. Living in a Frat House for the last 3 years, he hasn’t got a stitch of furniture except for his bedroom suit and the desk his PawPaw made a long time ago. All these things back home to be moved to Indiana. I’ve been in the market for a new sofa for quite a while, so I offered him my sofa and loveseat.

All this is a great start, but what about all the other stuff. Sooooooooooooo, his Mom searched “What Do You Need to Move Into An Apartment.” Then, his Grandma began a spreadsheet of “Things To Shop For.”

Well, no surprise, I’ve started. Last weekend, after I ordered our new sofas to replace the ones we’re giving to Grant, I did a bit of shopping. Stuff like sheets, towels, dishes, pots & pans, you know just a few things. I didn’t really want to lug all this stuff back to the beach, so I called my daughter to meet me to transfer all this stuff into her car.

I’ll never forget moving his Mom from dorm to dorm, to apartment, to another apartment, and so on. Then, the time she called me and said she was falling for her roommate (at the time). I said, “absolutely not!” Your Dad and I are getting too old to keep moving you after you realize this “roommate” is not the ONE.

Well, Shut My Mouth!

It’s been 24 years with the “roommate,” looks like this one stuck!
