So, there I was…

GO_1028By Georgia Osten
The last stop for the day before heading back to my safe haven – The Beach. I had to stop at WalMart for some Fire Ant Killer, I was tired and anxious to get home after a whole day of shopping in the Big City. I always park at the end by the Garden Department, less traffic, in and out in a hurry, time to look at the pretty flowers, really rather peaceful. As I’m walking from the car, trying to stuff my wallet back into my purse, crossing at the stripes on the road, a fellow in a sedan was coming along a bit too quickly, so I slowed down to let him pass. He slowed down to let me pass, but then he kept inching up upon me as I was trying to move quickly across.

As I turned to glare at him, I noticed he was mouthing away at me from inside his car. So I decided to confront him, I turned around and motioned to him to lower his passenger window, which he did. I began rapping my wallet on the window ledge of his car, telling him he needed to stop for pedestrians. He seemed to be at least my age and he replied, “I didn’t see a Pedestrian, but I DID see an OLD LADY!” He then barreled off shouting some words I don’t hear very often of what he would do to me if I touched his car again.

Well, there went my moment of peacefulness! Walking through WalMart, all I could think of was what I should have said, and I came up with some pretty catchy come-backs … My husband asked me which WalMart? Does that really matter? Are there WalMarts where people are friendlier?

Anyway, forgetting all about the ant killer, I went straight to the hair color aisle … so much for letting my gray grow out!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
