County Hires Parks Director

Former Assistant Director Promoted to Take the Helm
Julie Diaz was promoted as the new Director of Parks and Senior Services by unanimous consent of the Galveston County Commissioners’ Court. Diaz previously served as the assistant director and was recently called upon to serve as interim director during the past 6 months when the department was in transition. Since that time, she has boosted the department’s standing with community groups and citizens all across the county and has overseen the construction of four new playgrounds – including Texas’ first senior playground at Carbide Park which received state and national media coverage.

Julie Diaz brings over a decade of experience in the parks and recreation sector. Prior to her employment with Galveston County, Diaz served as the recreation center manager for the Pearland Parks and Recreation Department for over 7 years. She graduated from Mississippi State University and received a master’s degree from the University of Houston. In addition to being a certified parks and recreation professional (CPRP), Diaz is a graduate of the National Recreation and Parks Society Directors School and National Recreation and Parks Society Revenue Management School.

Since her time as interim director, the Galveston County Parks and Senior Services Department has increased programs and services to the community and leveraged technology to allow credit card purchases of beach sticker permits on Bolivar Peninsula all while producing a lean and efficient department budget.
