Last Thursday was closing night for the spring season of baseball at the Peninsula Sports Park. Looking back, the season was off to a smashing start on April 1st after many months of hard work and dedication from community involvement to bring baseball back to Bolivar. Over 30 games were played this season, from T-ball and pitch ball, to the hilarious match on opening day between the Little League Red Sox and the Bolivar Alumni team. Whether you hit, run, and catch; coach little players and teach them the heart of the game; or sit on the sidelines cheering on the young players…baseball brings folks together and it’s always a good time.
As the season began concluding, the Sandy Slammers claimed the Pitch Ball Championship with a 7-1 win over the Barracudas on Memorial Day weekend. And the final game of the season was played on Thursday between the Marlins and the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were victorious in a close game, taking the T-ball Championship with a 17-13 victory. After the final game, the closing ceremonies began. Commissioner Leslie Lowe announced each team member and players were awarded a medal. Trophies were also presented to the Championship teams.
And now we’re at the end of a rewarding season. To compare PSP to one of the greatest baseball movies of all time: “If you build it, they will come.” Indeed. Well done Peninsula Sports Park and the community members who made it happen. Looking forward to next year!
