My artichoke plants

All this work and all this time, protecting my artichoke plants. Yep, the same ones I bought through Amazon over 2 years ago. They’ve gone through some pretty dramatic weather here at the beach – drastic heat during the summers and near freezing weather in the winter, winds that blew them over, but they’re hardy plants. I yearned for the taste of my own home grown artichoke. Especially after I saw the ones my son-in-law grew in Monterey, California. His were perfect, they looked just like the ones at HEB.

What’s up with that, didn’t I buy his from Amazon too. My daughter said he bought them at the Farmer’s Market – I wonder? I bought my daughter-in-law’s too, my son claims I gave them infertile plants.

I was thrilled when I saw the first one on my biggest plant, then two more. I began to wonder why the biggest one began opening so much I could see the very middle. I thought, well at least I could eat the heart. Next day, all of a sudden a beautiful purple flower formed right in the middle. What the heck??

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
