Listen to the whispers of Autumn and you’ll hear the murmuring of anglers discussing their flounder catching days of yore, present, and future. The fun and excitement of this year’s flounder run is about to happen folks. The chill of Autumn’s north winds are being felt by flounder on the flats, which will cause them to vacate their summer homes to start moving to the warmer depths of Gulf. This past week gave the ups and downs of fishing with the Bull reds definitely doing their part. The speckled trout are beginning to bite again but with much smaller outcomes. The BIG story for this past week, in fact for this past month, are the Golden Croaker. This month saw the croaker run being one of the best we’ve seen in years with plenty of anglers smiling with their homebound coolers filled with some really large Golden Croaker, some going to 18 inches or better. It’s Time Folks, COME AND GETTUM!
Speckled Trout
Slow but active bites for mostly chicken trout. Some nice keeper specks from 14 to 18 inches coming in on the early tides (Limit: 15 inches minimum for 10 trout with only one over 25 inch trout per day allowed as part of your daily limit).
Redfish (Red Drum)
The redfish run is just about over but still active with some really nice slots and large bulls keeping it interesting (Limit: 20 inches minimum to 28 inch maximum for 3 reds per day- one over 28 inch red -plus bonus red- allowed when properly tagged in addition to your 3 fish limit).
Black Drum
Pups and keeper eaters still hitting with a few BULLS bending rods and egos (Limit: 14 inch minimum to 30 inch maximum for 5 fish per day with one OVER 52 inches allowed).
Flounder
Slow as of Oct-19, but with the chill of the north winds, the flounder run should begin really soon (Limit: 14 inch minimum for 5 fish per day).
Sheepshead
Slow (Limit: 15 inch minimum with 5 per day Creel).
Gafftop Catfish
Slow (Limit: 14 inch minimum for no limit creel).
Whiting/Croaker
Whiting in the surf and croaker hitting well in the cut with some reaching 18 inches (No Limit).
Sandtrout/Gulftrout
Sandies great in the cut but no gulf trout action as yet (No Limit).
Blue Claw Crab
Slow (Limit: 5 inches between points with no berry crabs (females with eggs) allowed).
Stone Crabs
A few stones coming in from the rocky areas (Limit: only right claw may be kept when 2-1/2 inches above first knuckle).
