Nine year old Breanna received a Flu vaccine Thursday October 15th, 2015. This vaccine attacked her body to the point that she was transported by ambulance to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston Saturday October 17th in critical condition. Breanna was diagnosed with Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). ADEM attacked 2 areas of her spinal cord, brain and neurological system, leaving Breanna paralyzed from the waist down, with poor vision/blindness, and incontinence. She remains in Pediatric ICU. Breanna will be in a very extensive Rehabilitation Therapy.
When Breanna is released to go home, she will continue rehabilitation. Johnny and Brenda Alexander have 5 other children living in the home, ranging in age from 3 to 12 years old. This little girl was full of life and very active. She remains a positive and brave child and does not understand what has happened to her.
