The Grand Opening of the Gulf Range and Saloon, a Miniature Golf Course and Family Entertainment Center, was Saturday, October 8th. The ribbon cutting and open house also featured free hot dogs and refreshments, and free golf play all afternoon and into the evening for the many visitors from all over the area. Everyone really enjoyed the newest funplex in town. The idea for the Gulf Range started two years ago. Jim Sutjak, Bolivar resident and business owner, teamed up with his son Jimmy, a US Navy veteran, to open a family entertainment complex. Their goal was to design a venue for family fun centered around a miniature golf course. They purchased the property on Hwy 87 at East Canal in the heart of Crystal Beach.
Jim and Jimmy designed and built a custom 18-hole layout for miniature golf. The course is beautifully landscaped as it winds around a central water fountain. It also features tropical lighting for night play, and is fully ADA compliant. The course opened on Mother’s Day Weekend, and the family saloon and game pavilion was completed and opened on Labor Day Weekend. Still ahead is the kitchen, opening soon to serve deli sandwiches, pizza, sno-cones, and ice cream. Under the open air game pavilion, visitors can play washers and cornhole, giant Jinga and other games, or just relax in the shade and watch the action. And future plans include a sand volleyball court and horseshoe pits. The goal of creating an entertainment center for the whole family to enjoy is certainly turning out to be just that. There’s something for everyone.
