Hunters

It was a testosterone-filled weekend to say the least. Not only was it opening season for teal hunting, and as it happens every year, “the guys” showed up the night before to gather for the big Saturday morning hunt. When I say “morning,” I mean a 4:30 am departure from the house to Anahuac. There’s something about “hunters” complete with hunting boots, guns, heavy rain gear, you name it. My point is, they’re not very quiet. Good for me, I was able to fall back to sleep quite immediately once they departed.

Maezy and I had a lovely “girl’s morning,” free of the little pesky 12 week old puppy. Cody is a prospective hunting dog, a cute little yellow lab, non-neutered, “because he may need to keep all his stuff if he turns out to be a good hunter.” He was enamored with Maezy and she was too ladylike to turn around and nip him for his repeated rudeness. When he realized it was more fun to simply play with her, Maezy actually enjoyed him.

His hunting future – we’re not too sure. He tried to get a bird away from a seasoned hunting dog, who turned around and snapped at him, drawing a little blood. It hurt Cody’s feelings more than anything, and probably taught him a very valuable hunting lesson.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
