BPLC Christmas Families

By Georgia Osten
Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club began thinking about our Christmas Families last Summer as we planned our Swinging For Santa Golf Tournament. The Golf Tournament Fund Raiser was the Lions Club’s effort to afford to adopt families for Christmas. With the help of the Lighthouse Krewe, proceeds from their Christmas Dance, and Eve Bradford at the Community Outreach, we were able to adopt 25 families, providing clothes, toys and a huge basket of food for each family.

Families submitted their Wish List to Charlotte Byus of Second Going. Jan Kent provided names of families from High Island. All of a sudden, ten more families had submitted their Wish Lists to Second Going. We sent out a plea for people to adopt these families and our wish was granted in less than two days, all the remaining families were adopted.

Wrapped presents and food baskets filled the halls of the Community Center

Everyone joined at the Community Center, wrapping and packaging all the gifts, calling all the families to come pick up their Christmas presents. By Thursday, everything had been picked up. Happy looks and appreciative hugs is what it’s all about. I heard so many stories of how many people and organizations are helping our Peninsula.

Bolivar Peninsula, with a Big Heart, wishes all a very Merry Christmas!
