Crab Fest 2016 – over

A lot of fun, but it’s a blur, I can’t remember anything specifically, like which night, which day, what occurred when. I do remember one really stressful situation that reminded me of something so funny I have to tell you. We were in the old house (the one Ike destroyed), but I loved everything about this house. We had just gotten to the beach for the weekend. My son came out of the bathroom laughing hysterically. “Mom, you have to come here to see this,” as he led me into the bathroom. I couldn’t imagine why my 30 year old son needed me in the bathroom, it had been quite a few years since I had to assist him in any way. He opened the toilet lid to show me the little frog swimming around in the toilet. He couldn’t wait for his younger sister (by less than 2 years) to have to use the bathroom. They’re grownups and they’re still playing tricks on each other.

Anyway, now for the really stressful situation that happened at the Festival. Saturday morning, I was visiting my vendors in the tent, when the sensation came upon me and I had to excuse myself. Oh my goodness, this is when about 4 vendors stopped me to tell me about the snakes. Yes, snakes. Two snakes in one of the porta potties. Paleeeeeeeze – don’t tell me this when I really have to go. The snakes had been removed, but how on earth they survived in those chemicals, I’ll never know. Then, the other thing that surprises me is that someone actually looked into the toilet in the first place. I practically close my eyes and I certainly close my nose.

Needless to say, I left briefly to go to the safety of my own home. And guess what, I opened the lid and there was a frog in the toilet. Just kidding…

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
