Getting ready for the New Year

GO_1230By Georgia Osten
As we near a new year, it’s fun to look back at our accomplishments and happenings throughout 2014. Hopefully, most of us have advanced in some way. Maybe, we’ve experienced a growth in our families, or maybe we’ve experienced a loss. At any rate, it’s important to keep this in mind…life goes on. I always enjoy getting ready for a new year. I like to put all the 2014 receipts away somewhere handy where I can throw them out in a few months. At work, I like to put the 2014 files away in a file cabinet and prepare new folders for 2015. Recently, I went through my emails and discarded all the old sent mail, just to basically rid myself of a lot of unnecessary clutter.

For some reason though, I can’t bring myself to put the Christmas Tree and decorations away. I still turn on the tree first thing in the morning, and I still turn on the lights outside in the evening. The Christmas Season is magical to me. I know the house will look absolutely empty when I put all this stuff away – more room for the puzzle table I guess. I know I need to make myself finish my painting project before I move on to a puzzle. This weekend, yep, this weekend the tree and lights go away for another year.

As we reflect on however our lives may have changed, take time to realize that with change comes growth, hopefully not to the waistline. Make some realistic resolutions for the new year – plan to take off another 10 pounds, exercise more, eat less. Reflect on what can make your lives better, relationships stronger and life lovelier for those loved ones around us.

From one beach bum to another, I’ll see you next year!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
