Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

When the guys are away, the girls will play!
When the workin’ day was done (for me) on Friday, I came home to a bunch of girlfriends. My oldest daughter of course, and two BFF’s came to visit for the weekend. What a grand weekend we had, eating, drinking, beaching and relaxing. Non-stop jabber. It was the annual hunting trip for all the guys, so we took the opportunity to just hang out and do as we pleased. We spent the afternoon at the beach, the sun obliged and left us all quite rosy and hungry. We went to Jose’s Friday night for an array of Mexican food and seafood. Jose came over to the table and met all the girls. We had our doggie bags to bring home in case we got hungry later.

The younger girls tried the hot tub, but it wouldn’t get very hot for them, so into the downstairs hot shower they went.

Candy apples from Galveston Strand and homemade cookies and brownies Barbara brought with her, we were set to watch a girlie movie together. NYAD was our choice. A real tearjerker at the end when Diane Nyad attempts for the 4th time to swim from Cuba to Key West. No games that night, but they promised me we’d play Saturday night.

Saturday morning, bright and early, Mel & her Mom, Barbara, set off for Deer Park where the Grand was to be in the Opening Day of baseball season parade. Leigh & I slept in to our heart’s content. When they returned later in the morning, we were packed up and ready to hit the beach.

What a beautiful day! We stuck an umbrella in the sand for Barbara and the rest of us lounged in the sun for the entire day. Leigh did some “shop local” shopping at The Big Store, purchasing some very nice $$ lounge chairs. We found some sunscreen under the sink in my bathroom that wasn’t too out of date yet. Of course, I waited until I was a bit scorched before I applied any. My goodness how times have changed since we used to lather up with baby oil.

Saturday evening, I suggested Nauti’s for dinner. What a hit! Leigh ordered Mahi Mahi and the rest of us ordered some Bad Ass Burgers. The girls really loved the atmosphere and even purchased some Very Nice tee shirts. NOT!

The hot tub had finally warmed up, so the girls enjoyed a dip. Except for when the hot water touched their sunburnt skin. Barbara and I sat and chatted in our lawn chairs wrapped in flannel and blankets. Lately, when the sun goes down, it gets darned chilly around here!

Another movie, this time Boys in the Boat. OMG, if you’ve never seen it, it was worth the Amazon rental. Another tearjerker! And, yes, they forgot to play a game with me. That’s okay, I guess they’re tired of me beating them all the time.

Sunday, after another sleep in, we all ventured down to La Playita for breakfast. Needless to say, this was a weekend of NO-COOKING! A lot of rest and relaxation. Hopefully, next year, our Florida Girls will join us!
