Old fashion gathering

There’s nothing like a good old fashion gathering at the beach – family and friends for the entire weekend. What a way to wind down the summer, the last big holiday weekend. The house was bulging at the seams, 9 young-uns ages 1 1/2 to 21, 7 adults, and 5 dogs. The kitchen staff was cooking round the clock, and the kids were busy cruising the beach on the golf cart or in the jeep. Saturday’s rain storms didn’t thwart our fun, we simply took the tarps off the pop-ups to keep from damaging anything and kept on playing washers.

Upon returning from church on Sunday, the kitchen staff was full-on preparing waffles, bacon and scrambled eggs, then we were back to the beach. I took a break from the beach to stay with the little guy while he napped at home. It was a good time for me because I made another 3 loaves of bread and some Rum Chata Pudding Shots.

Tacos for dinner and a rousing game of Spoons at the dining room table – 7 of us and 6 spoons. This is such a violent game, especially with my oldest grandson. I learned my lesson a long time ago to sit far away from him. Spoons cut! Bandaids are a necessity.

Later today, after all have left and the obligatory recovery has been performed on the house, all the laundry done and the beds remade, I can reflect on all the goings on around this big old (normally) quiet house. I love the hubbub, the messes, the voices, the laughter, so many people each finding their special spot. The two youngest dogs will seek out one another to scrap and play, usually inside. They are instantly banished out to the gated deck.

Every once in awhile, you find a little one who just has to have a little nappy poo. Little Victoria was caught on the swing on the deck after a long day.

As I’ve been caught saying before, “Everything’s better at the beach.”

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.

I know the feeling!!!! Not at my home, but at the bait camp. I love when folks stop by and sit awhile, go back to cook on the pit and just hang out to talk and laugh in general! Sometimes it seems like a whirlwind!! But it makes my long days go faster and make the days more enjoyable!
