The Ryderish Cup

The winds were not the only thing coming out of the North this past weekend at “The Ranch”. The East Texas Outlaw Golf Association came down to play the Crystal Beach Par(tee) Gang on Saturday in the Bi-Annual Ryderish Cup. Kicking off the event on Friday night was a dinner at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, which was open to all of the participants and their spouses. Then on Saturday, under harsh conditions, the teams battled for 27 holes. The first nine was a 2 man scramble. Coming out of that, the East Texas Outlaws held a slight 5-4 lead. That was the only time they were ahead on the day as the Par(tee) Gang swung a 1 point deficit into a 3 point lead in the shamble format, and then held on to win after the 9 holes of alternate shot by a total margin of 12-9. This was the largest turnout for the Ryderish Cup event as both teams fielded 18 players a piece, taking up all 9 holes.

Feeding everyone was no small feat either. The Crystal Beach team provided the beverages, and the Outlaw Golf Association turned Diana Agnew loose as chef. Friday night she served up tacos and all the fixins to everyone. And on Saturday, the players feasted on pulled pork sandwiches and the best mac-n-cheese around. All proceeds go to The Ranch.

The next match is tentatively slated for the Saturday after Labor Day Weekend. If you haven’t been out to the Ranch recently, they have punched, sanded, and reseeded their greens and are working to repair the fairways on several holes. It’s a sight to be seen and a pleasure to play on. Thank you to all the participants and volunteers.
