Texas Parks and Wildlife, CCA Texas and other partners are currently restoring over 180 acres of oyster reef in East Galveston Bay. Work has been in progress for several weeks now. TWPD needs the help of the general public as Fishermen Scientists. In an effort to create baseline data for the success of fishing effort before and after the restoration efforts, we need the help of area fishermen.
The FISHING SURVEY SHEET details the methods and areas that data is needed from and we need you, the local fisherman to help us.
For those that participate, you will be awarded a $25 Academy Sport + Outdoors gift certificate for each person per fishing day with data properly filled out and turned in, limited to the first 75. At the end of the survey effort, the individual with the most days fished in will be awarded a $250 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift certificate, 2nd place will receive a $150 gift card and 3rd Place a $75 gift card. In the event of a tie, the individual with the earliest fishing record will be declared the winner. In order to claim your gift card, we ask that you please submit a picture of your fishing experience (photos by phone are acceptable) that can be used for the project publications and the exact coordinates for your fishing location to ensure they are within the boundaries of the fishing areas. Individuals who do not follow the protocol, fish in locations not specified by the protocol or do not submit a properly filled out data sheet will not be eligible.
As a reminder, CCA Texas will reimburse your bait cost as outlined in the guidelines for this fishing survey.
