Watermelon Crawlers Support PSP

Despite rainy, cold weather, the Watermelon Crawl went on with about 130 registered participants and their riders. The event totaled over 200 people raising money for Peninsula Sports Park. This year, Wicked Off-Road from Beaumont, owned by local residents Daniel and Brittany Smith, was the Premier Sponsor covering all costs for the event, allowing PSP to bring in nearly $5,000 to make more improvements at the Sports Park. Enhancing the fundraiser even more, the local establishments invited the Crawl to stop in and participate in Watermelon challenges to win prizes.

The stops this year were Jose’s Steakhouse, Tiki Beach Bar & Grill, Nauti’s Liquor and Beer Barn, The Gulf Range, and Stingaree Down Under. Our locally famous DJ Rafael entertained at Down Under where there were some great raffle items available. Fun was had by all, looking forward to next year with better weather.

Such a fun day for all ages, and thanks to all 50 participants who registered to pick up beach litter along the route. Congratulations to Chantel Ainsworth for winning the $25 gift certificate to JBirds. Thanks from Keep Bolivar Beautiful for having a great time while preventing 250# of litter from entering our waterways. Carlis Cole, KBB
