What meaneth these stones?

BrendaBy Brenda Cannon Henley
Joshua 4:6 “…these stones may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What mean ye by these stones?’”
Verse 7 “Then ye shall answer them, ‘That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel forever.’”

What has God done for you in the past?
What are you struggling with today?
What do you need for Him to do today, tomorrow, the next day?

  1. Memories — God gives us our memories of past victories to help equip us for today’s trials and battles. Sit and meditate for a few minutes on the good times in our lives.
  2. Miserable — We become miserable creatures when we forget the goodness of God in our lives. It is helpful to think of times in the past where God has taken care of you personally or someone in your family that you love. Being grateful for His tender mercies will drive miserable thoughts from our hearts and minds.
  3. Memorial — God asks us to build our own memorials as testimonies to His grace and goodness. It isn’t necessary to construct a stone or marble altar, but it is good to find a place where you can be alone and think of the goodness of the Lord.
  4. Miracles — When we share our own personal miracles with others, they begin to see God’s goodness, grace, and great love for them.
  5. Mighty — We are mighty through His power and not in anything we can do for ourselves.
  6. Magnify — Many are fearful to magnify His wonderful name today. Do not be ashamed to praise the Lord for what He has done for you and for your family members and friends.
  7. Minister — Only when we change our attitude and express our gratitude to God for His goodness to us are we equipped to truly reach out to others.

Think just how good God is to each of us. When you begin to feel defeated and attacked by Satan, you become ill or weary on your journey, someone you love is hurting, stop and look at your memorial and claim God’s blessings. Let’s get busy and allow our God to build a work in us here on the Bolivar Peninsula and around the world. He wants to do so much more than we want him to do so. Can He count on you?
