Winter on the beach

(Feb-14-2012) I’m hoping, after 35 degree days, that this is the end of Winter, please! We had company this weekend, planned it for many weeks, and thank goodness it wasn’t raining, but Geez, could it be any colder? That’s okay, we wouldn’t let a little cold weather bring us down. We drove from Rollover back to Crystal Beach along the shore to collect firewood in the old pick up truck. My husband is pretty picky. He rejects about half of what I pick up – too wet, too big, too small. We actually found so much wood, we stopped… collecting about half way home. After we ate dinner, yummy snapper cooked by my husband, we began getting ready to head down to build our bonfire. Keeping warm is a science and layering is essential, especially on a blustery night like we had on Saturday: two pair of pants, long-sleeved t-shirt, flannel shirt and then a jacket, gloves and snuggly cap with ears. No bonfire is complete without fixings for s’mores and whatever beverage will get you through a couple of hours. Oh, it was grand! We pulled the truck up behind us to block some of the wind, sticking our feet so close to the fire while hoping not to burn our tootsies. Three hours later we pack up and headed back home. Nice to be freshly showered and back in our toasty beach house.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
