The Waterslide

It needs no name nor introduction. It is fondly known to all locals and Crystal Beach veterans as The Waterslide. My sister, brother and I have been frequenting this water slide for almost the entire 40 years it has been open (don’t tell my sister I just revealed her age). We first slid when we had to ride down with our parents while our grandparents watched, we slid when we could swim and go it alone, we slid when we were teenagers and brought friends down to the beach, and now here we are, bringing our own kids to begin their sliding transitions. It’s amazing how the water slide has transcended the generations. Thankfully, it survived the hurricanes.

Bobby Mistrot bought the slide just before Ike and continues to support our daily visit to the slides for our refreshing rinse after the long day on the beach. But it’s also amazing how the Fun Spot Waterslide can be pleasing and exciting to all ages. You’ll see little tikes in life vests starting out with Mom and Dad and finally getting comfortable enough to do it “all by myself”! And you’ll see adolescents making trains choo-chooing down the ride. And then you see grown adults…that’s the fun part…watching those “big kids” have a genuine thrill down the slide. It’s hilarious – my sister, brother and I were right there living the adventure, and reliving our childhood.
